Deep in the bones

I live with osteoporosis.

A few years ago after accumulating injuries and increasing physical pain I had to take a deeper look at what was missing in my own movement practice. The mindful “turn towards the difficult” helped me see that I didn’t want to be practicing or teaching “old lady yoga”. Once I came clean with my own bias, I was amazed to discover that focusing on a significant strengthening and stabilizing component has brought multiple benefits to myself and others as well as a renewed passion to my teaching.

Deep in the Bones is an 8 week, 16 class exercise program that I designed. It adheres to the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines.  It includes weight-bearing aerobic activity, muscle strengthening using free weights, and movements that improve balance, posture, and core strength.

This program is a synthesis of mindfulness and stabilizing movements designed to help participants feel progressively stronger in both mind and body. It is great for anyone and particularly beneficial for the following:

  • people 50+ who love living life fully and want to continue to do so;

  • people living with osteopenia/osteoporosis - Jill is Bone Fit certified through Osteoporosis Canada and has designed this program to be appropriate for people interested in maintaining bone health who are at moderate risk for fracture;

  • people who are hypermobile.

Part 1 is designed for participants who are new to the program.

Part 2 is designed for participants who have completed the program and are interested in building on what they learned in Part 1.

I am BoneFit certified. Osteoporosis Canada, the only national organization serving people who have, or are at risk for osteoporosis, developed the Bone Fit™ course in conjunction with an advisory committee of expert clinicians and academics in the area of osteoporosis and exercise.
